feeling pink

Who knew I’d be welcoming the most gaudy shirt in the world into my wardrobe with open arms? Not me.

I’ve got Topshop Boutique to thank for that and I’m so glad I took the leap. Shiny, silky, bright; not descriptive words you’d usually associate with me, but here we are.

I am, however wearing all black to combat the extreme colour. So, swings and roundabouts. I’m wearing a boxy blazer and my trusty patent leather trousers here to make quite a special evening look. I am so happy I took the leap. The shirt also looks amazing with denim and converse too, which tones it right down if you’re a bit shy on the colour front.

I’m wearing some Dear Frances boots too, which are the most perfect shape and height.

The weekend series: Stockholm

I’ve just come back from a gorgeous weekend away in the crispy cold climes of Stockholm. James and I did the same trip this time last year, and we both fell in love with the city. We’ve just said, we’ll go back again next year! There is still so much more to see and do.

We stayed at Miss Clara, and it was beautiful. An understated classic-cool, you know, the way that the Scandi’s do. The room was very cool, sprawling windows, minimal design and muted colours, with a real attention to detail. The bar/restaurant areas were just as beautiful, too, and James said they make an amazing Negroni! We had breakfast at the hotel both mornings because it was perfect, a real hearty breakfast buffet. The location of the hotel is so perfect too, nowhere was more than a 30 minute walk away, and when I’m away, I try to walk everywhere to get my bearings and stumble across things I might not have seen or known about otherwise.

I want to share all the things we loved whilst we were away, from food to vintage!

Vintage lifestyle store: Söders Retro. What a gem of a store. I wanted to take 4 mirrors home, but James told me we absolutely wouldn’t fit them in the case (and rightly so, they were as big as us!). Prices were so reasonable, one of the mirrors was only £30. I will dream of it forever!!

Fotografiska: The Swedish Museum of Photography. What a beautiful place! There are 3 exhibitions inside, each one more beautiful than the last. It’s around £12 pp entrance fee. They have an incredible cafe on the rooftop too, so it has great views, and coffee!

The Stockholm library: What an incredible set up; it’s like the insane library’s we see in Hollywood films. Great to pop into and take it in for 10 minutes as you walk past (10 minutes from Miss Clara).

Stockholms Stadsmission-second hand & remake store: I’m not usually a vintage shopper, but if I was going to try it anywhere, it would be Stockholm for obvious reasons! There are plenty of these scattered about.

Djuret: A gorgeous, classic dining room that offers a tasting menu and wine pairing. A bit spend-y! But a beautiful evening. The menu is always something you’ve never had before so I suggest just dive in and try it!

EKSTEDT: We went here last year, so out of sentimental value and the fact that we loved it the first time round, we went back. It’s a smokehouse essentially, and another tasting menu, you can choose out fo 4 or 6 course, but they always pad them out with other little courses in between! This one is flipping expensive. For a special occasion, go for it. But there are plenty of places to eat that won’t break the bank.

Riche: A non-bank breaking restaurant and bar. Wine is expensive here but food prices were okay! Lots of people recommended this to us and it was very cool and beautiful inside!

Snickarbacken 7: A wonderful little gem. Industrial/church like inside, lit by candles and serving some really great brunch food. There’s even a design store inside. Very cool, and purse friendly.

Thank you so much for reading and do let me know if you go! xx

shiny happy people (trousers)

I cannot stop wearing these trousers. There, I said it. They’re just too versatile and I feel like a million bucks when I wear them. Clothes have the capacity to do that, don’t they? Change your mood.
Dressing well always lifts my mood if I’m having an off day, especially if it’s a night time look because then, you’re kind of forced to make more of an effort than with a day time look- that’s how it is with me, anyway.

I absolutely adore the exposed button front on these trousers, which means all the more tucking in of chunky knits, to show the detail off.

This is one of my favourite looks lately, I feel so comfortable but smart. I got this amazing/warmest jumper I own from the COS sale last week. I think it’s down to £35, so, what a bargain!

Fluff it up

Hello you lovely lot. I hope you’re all having a great start to the week this week. For those of you that saw it (or didn’t!), I started a new YouTube series called ‘The Reset Series’ which is an honest and open chat about mental health with tips and tricks to help you along the way. The response has overwhelmed me in the most positive way and I cannot thank you all enough for the support and honesty in sharing your own stories and advice. Nobody is alone, and that’s what is so amazing.

You can watch it here: https://youtu.be/bOon7bVwZTU

Anyway, the outfit!
Another few pieces that I adore, shot in Notting Hill recently. I am flipping obsessed with this Re/done t-shirt. Look at it! I bought a yellow one too, just stocking up for the Summer, you know?

The coat is quite special too, by Madewell, who make some incredible pieces and do a great basic. It’s sold out so I’ll link a similar one for you. The jeans are some of my favourite fitting denim ever, they’re perfect in every way. They’re by 3×1 and I love them. The boots are Topshop and are wearing really well. They’re a great height with a little something extra on the heel deisgn so they can dress your casual knitwear and denim up.

Finding Winter gems: Acne Studios Bicester Village

Hello you lot! I hope you’re all starting to feel back into the swing of things after some time off now.

Well, I don’t know where to start with this coat. I don’t think I’ve ever loved a piece of clothing so much (okay, maybe the TIBI trousers). I headed off to Bicester Village a couple of weeks ago, specifically to find a warm coat for a trip to Stockholm in January. James and I went the same time last year and it is incredible in the snow but also, baltic beyond belief!

Bicester Village is always great for offering up a gem. I’ve never come away empty handed, or without something I really needed and love. Most of my shopping trips don’t end like that- it’s always the way that if I want something specific, I’ll never bloody find it. In October, Bicester added a whole host of new designer stores to its already impressive list. One of those, was Acne Studios. Now, Acne is one of my brands, it’s a brand that I’ll always shop with. The outlet store at Bicester has no less than 30% off everything which is fab, but lucky ol’ me managed to get this jacket for 70% off and I almost collapsed.

It’s the best top layer ever. I can fit so many forms of knitwear underneath and that’s exactly what I wanted.

You can see the full list of Bicester stores here.

A Happy New Year thank you

Hello you lot! Happy New Year!

I hope you’ve all had an absolutely gorgeous rest over Christmas and New Year. It always go by in a flash doesn’t it! I’m nursing a hangover today even though I didn’t drink that much. The injustice.

I wanted to thank you all so much for your constant support over this past year. It’s been my first year of freelance life and it hasn’t been without bumps, but I feel so lucky to be able to do this as my full time job, and none of it would have been a success without you all. Really. I’ve had the longest think over the festive break about what I want to work towards over the next year, I’ve not guilt tripped myself into thinking “I must do better”, rather “It must make me happy” and I think that’s a good way to look at things. Let’s leave putting pressure on ourselves in 2017 and push forward for happiness, however you may find it.

A couple of things I want to do more of:

Making more style related videos on my YouTube channel this year. I’ve realised that making film really does make me happy and allows me to really be creative. I already vlog weekly, but if you’d like to see more and you haven’t subscribed yet then you can subscribe to see what I get up to here: Lindsey Holland YouTube Channel

I would like to travel where I can, as long as it doesn’t steal time away from the people I love. I learned last year that I am allowed to be picky about when and where I go and that I can say no if it isn’t best for me. Traveling is where some of my greatest inspiration comes from so if I can soak it all up like a little sponge and create something I’m proud of, then thats wonderful as long as it’s not at the expense of my health/wellbeing or taking time away from loved ones.

It’s okay not to have goals, though, I haven’t set any timelines or anything in stone that would make me feel pressured or stressed. I just have an idea of what makes me happy and I want to do more of that. You should too, whatever that is, make it a priority.

Thank you again so much and I’ll leave you with one of my favourite comfy outfits.

You actually cannot beat some knitwear and denim. The combination is solid, and cannot be broken. I shot this look for Shopbop, and wanted to share it because it’s so easy but I love that each piece is a little bit interesting too. The neck on the knitwear, and the fleck in the colour. Then the jeans, you all know how much I love denim. Re/done are honestly, some of the best fitting jeans I’ve ever found. Their price point is higher, yes, but I have paid and would pay it again. They wear and wash well, no saggy bottoms or knees after 3 wears. And I love the vintage shape they are modelled on. You can absolutely find some in the sale over Christmas too. But I’ve linked this exact pair below for you. Size down by one size because they come up big.

Oh and PS, Joe & The Juice make the best coffee and I will not move on that opinion!

What to wear on NYE

So it’s Christmas Eve and you haven’t sorted your NYE outfit out….it’s okay, you’ve got a week and some of it is in the sale already.

I wanted to put this together for you because settling on a NYE outfit can be stressful, especially because we all do such different things to see the New year in. I’ll be at a low key house party with family, watching all the festive music TV, playing games and drinking some fancy wine that I’ve saved for ages.

I think this outfit works for party out or party at home. At home, I’ll start with the boots on but they’ll be off half an hour after people arrive….comfort is key at home. Party out is perfect, because the boots aren’t too high either, therefore you can dance until it’s 2018. Then the shirt is silky and special but not too over the top so you can wear on repeat with jeans. The skirt, is amazing and I love the pattern and colour. It’s super flattering too. The boxy jacket tones it all down if you’re a first timer for over knee boots too, so you can do sexy chic in a way you feel comfortable.

I’ve popped the links below with some alternative boots for you:

Stuart Weitzman boots

ASOS over knee boots

Topshop skirt

Topshop Boutique silk shirt

& Other Stories jacket

Have the best time today and tomorrow, whatever you’re doing, and thank you all so much for reading and for your support over this year. xx
